Jerseyville council to consider applying for transportation grants at special meeting

Grants

The Jerseyville City Council will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. today at Jerseyville City Hall, 115 E. Praire St., to discuss whether the city should apply for federal transportation infrastructure grants.

The council will discuss a plan to sign up on grants.gov and apply for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) and Fostering Advancements in Shipping and Transportation for the Long-term Achievement of National Efficiencies (FASTLANE) grants, which the U.S. Department of Transportation offers.

Both programs were created under the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, the recently enacted reauthorization law that funds transportation infrastructure repair and upgrade projects.
