The Auburn Public Library Board met June 21 to receive an update on the summer reading program.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board: 

06­21­2016 AUBURN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING PRESENT: Heather Burton Monica Garrett Janice Rothering Amy Steele Lisa Whisler STAFF PRESENT: Calla Patton, Library Director Emily King, Librarian Louise Dudley, Library Aide BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Diana Coffman Shirley Deheve Dave Hallerberg Lisa Talley VISITORS: Jeff Davis Meeting called to order at 7:04 p.m. I. MINUTES: Monica Garrett made a motion to approve the minutes. Janice Rothering seconded. Motion carried. II. ?CONSENT AGENDA: Lisa Whisler made a motion to accept the consent agenda and Amy Steele seconded. Motion carried. III. TREASURER’S REPORT: The Board reviewed the current treasurer’s report. Amy Steele made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Monica Garrett seconded. Motion carried. V. DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Facility ­drop box / no issues ­Susan Flannigan, Master Gardener, volunteered to the ad about landscaping. She is donating plants and also asking Lincoln Memorial. City will pick up trimming. Programs: ­Summer Reading started 6/18 50 signed up Released butterflies at end of kick off party Thanks to all who helped. ­Summer reading event calendars available ­Movies on Fridays ­Frog in Library is continuous ­Bookopoly up and coming ­comic strip contest 4H inquired if Chess Club will play at Eastland ­READ sign donated by M. W. Patton Construction LLC ­6/22 Reading is Beautiful ­August painting class in works, with artist Lonnie Cain Need 10 people max Portion of profits back to Library Fee $45 for all day class/materials for 18 years of age and up ­t­shirt fundraiser for $15, APL LOGO and author quote on back. Facebook 376 views Pinterest 153 following Website 539 views, 110 visitors Polaris 21089 (up 1659) Staff: None Misc. ­Library trying to donate the magazine holder Staff is asking for ideas ­Calla vacation 8/13­8/21. Emily will fill in. ­3 teens vandalized men’s restroom. Letters sent to parents and they must be er ­Another group of teens were removed due to throwing of baseball and checkers inside. They were banned from Library for 24 hours. A few apologized. ­Technology equipment: need a disc cleaner. Library purchased 2 scanners and is looking into a laptop or tablet. VI. SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORT: None VII. PUBLIC COMMENT: None VIII. OLD BUSINESS: ­Mayor selection for trustee seat is Jeff Davis. ­Bldg: Administrative Committee Meeting was Calla and the city council. The City expense lines budgeted for the library cover electric, gas, water, sewer, Terminix, insurance of property and equipment, yearly HVAC services, replacements of lights and ballasts, service calls and supplies for building. Insert with minutes. ­The City volunteered to replace light covers. One row is completed and the Library is waiting to hear back from City. City does not want to cover100% of cost and it is possible that there will be a 50/50 split. City will cover labor. ­Common area to be completed. Lisa Whisler made a motion to go forth with a 50/50 split of cost with the City, to go forth with the City providing labor to install light covers in the commons area of the Library (not the conference room) and not to exceed $450.00. Amy Steele seconded the motion. Motion carried. IX. NEW BUSINESS: ­Cloud Library Merge, meeting held 5/23. ­APL is merging 7/1 ­Polaris live on 7/5 with new service (insert paper copy attached to minutes) ­No fee for the Cloud which is offered at no cost. ­APP can be downloaded to e­reader, iPhone. ­This merge will double the items we have access to (50,000+). ­Note that e­books cannot be renewed. ­The Cloud connects to your library card. ­Leslie from Share will a class on 6/23 to patrons about the Cloud. ­The Cloud is $400/yr. ­Circulation changes: *Polaris Live 7/5 with Share Director on site for assistance. ­This information will be published in paper. ­Library cards are ordered. ­Circulation policy will be presented in July for Board approval. ­With Polaris Live, patrons need library cards to check out items. ­The cards cost 1.50 each. Ordered 500. ­***There will be a $2.00 card replacement fee. ­Library is barcode training certified and the Library needs volunteers to barcode. ­Patrons can check out DVD items with no limit on items. This will increase our check out for families from 3 days to one week. Polaris matches this circulation policy. ­Charge processing fee to cover item cost, damage cost and replacement cost is as follows: book or DVD $5, audio $10. X. ANNOUNCEMENTS: ?
