Jerseyville City Council purchases Dodge Caravan

The city of Jerseyville City Council met Sept. 13 to purchase a Dodge Caravan.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

SEPTEMBER 13, 2016

The Jerseyville City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in

the Jerseyville City Hall.

Roll call: Present were Commissioners Steve Pohlman, Gary Goetten, Kevin Stork, and Richard

Perdun. Mayor Bill Russell was absent. Also present was Attorney Todd Parish.

Comm. Pohlman led the opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

A motion was made by Comm. Pohlman and seconded by Comm. Goetten to approve the minutes

of the last regular meeting on August 30, Roll call vote showed all present voted aye; no nays,

motion carried.

A motion was made by Comm. Perdun, seconded by Pohlman, to approve the bills as presented

which totaled $560,561.44. Roll call vote showed all present voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

A motion was made by Comm. Goetten, seconded by Comm. Perdun, to approve the request of the

Lions Club to hold a fundraiser on September 30th, at the intersection of East County Rd & State

Hwy 109 during the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to offer basic eye glass financial assistance in

Jersey County to those in need. Roll call vote showed all present voted aye, no nays, motion

carried.

A motion was made by Comm. Goetten, seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to approve the purchase of

a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan for the Parks & Recreation Department. Director Sullivan will use the

van and her current vehicle, a 2008 Ford truck, will used by the staff as needed. The 1997 Chevy

truck that is currently used as the “trash truck” will be retired. The purchase price of the van is

$10,500 and with the stow-n-go seats will be a better vehicle for her work-purposes of distribution

of literature, event preparation, travel, meeting attendance, etc. Roll call vote showed all present

voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

A motion was made by Comm. Perdun, seconded by Comm. Goetten, to approve the closure of

streets for the Annual Downtown Country Christmas on November 26, 2016, 5-9 p.m. West Pearl

from Washington to Lafayette, Washington from Arch to Exchange, and West Exchange from State

to Washington St. Roll call vote showed all present voted aye, no nays, motion carried. A

presentation was given by Molly Rawling of the JCBA outlining all the activities planned for the

celebration which will be free to the public.

A motion was made by Comm. Pohlman, seconded by Comm. Perdun, to approve a tourism grant in

the amount of $2000 to help support the Jersey County Country Christmas Festival. Roll call vote

showed all present voted aye, no nays, motion carried. Molly also announced 2 fundraisers to help

defray the cost of the celebration. The JCBA will be selling 8” metal stars to be hung on the City

Christmas tree displayed this year on the City lot in the 200 block of N. State St. The stars will sell

for $10 apiece and can be inscribed with a name. The order forms are available at the JCBA office

or any JCBA member location. Real (cut) Christmas trees will also be on sale at that same lot for a

nd fundraiser.

Comm. Stork announced that the City would be involved in a month to month contract with an IT

firm to upgrade the electronic equipment at City Hall. Jared Hayes asked why it was necessary to

have 2 dog tags for animals in the City. Comm. Perdun explained that the rabies tags are

administered by the County for the State of Illinois and the $6.00 City tag is a form of registration

with contact information if an animal is lost.

With no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Comm. Goetten, seconded by Comm.

Pohlman, to adjourn the meeting Roll call vote showed all present voted aye, no nays, motion

carried.
