Pittsfield City Council discusses lift stations

The Pittsfield City Council met Jan. 3 to discuss lift stations.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

The council is the governing body for the city of Pittsfield. Members typically meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from May through October, and at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from November through April.

The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, was held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the City Council room at 215 North Monroe Street. The following officers were present: Mayor John Hayden, City Clerk Cindy Prentice, and Aldermen Kevin Ketchum, Ed Knight, Paul Lennon, Robert Ritchart, Bill Scheiwe, Robert Wilson and Robert Wood.

Absent: Alderman Kevin Wombles.

Mayor Hayden presided.

Alderman Ketchum moved to approve the minutes of the last regular Council meeting.

Alderman Wood seconded the motion.

Roll Call: Yea: Ketchum, Knight, Lennon, Ritchart,

Scheiwe, Wilson, Wood (7)

Nay: None (0)

The motion carried.

Alderman Ritchart moved to accept the recommendation of the Zoning Committee to approve the variance for Larry L. and Susan A. Collins, owners of the property located at 601 South Memorial Street in Pittsfield to permit placement of an unattached garage which will have a side yard of three feet (3’) instead of the required twenty-five feet (25’) on a reverse corner lot and placement of a storage shed with a rear yard of zero feet (0’) instead of the required five feet (5’) and a side yard of zero feet (0’) instead of the required six feet (6’), providing Mr. Collins checks with Ameren for approval on the distance from power lines and contacts City Clerk Cindy Prentice after he has contacted Ameren.

Alderman Knight seconded the motion.

Nay: Scheiwe (1)

The motion carried.

Alderman Ketchum moved to approve the Illinois Department of Transportation Unit Price Agreement for the Safe Route to Schools.

Alderman Wood seconded the motion.

The motion carried.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve Resolution No. 2017-1, Illinois Transportation Legislative Initiative, Resolution of Support to Benefit the Economy & the Citizens of Illinois (80% Highways/20% Transit & Highways Portion at 60% IDOT/40% Local Roads).

Alderman Wood seconded the motion.

January 3, 2017

Mayor Hayden set an Ordinance Committee meeting for Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. to discuss the travel expense reimbursement ordinance for maximum reimbursement. A Water/Wastewater Committee meeting was also set for Monday, January 10, 2017 at 5:15 to discuss lift stations, SCADA system, forced main system at the Industrial site and a new employee at the water/wastewater systems. Mayor Hayden reported he and Jeff Griggs will be driving around looking at the streets in town and would like the aldermen to give him a list of streets in their wards that are in need of repair. Alderman Wilson stated Higbee Street in front of the high school needs repaired. Mayor Hayden would also like to have a list of City projects for next year. Alderman Ritchart set a Public Health, Fire & Police Committee on January 17, 2017 at 5:30 to discuss Police Department matters.

Alderman Scheiwe reported gas prices are going up. They are up $.40-$.50 since last fall. The City has a contract through March 2017 for this winter.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve the Finance Committee Report and the Clerk be directed to issue the claims thereon, subject to approval by Terry Leahr on the Vandevanter invoice.

Alderman Ketchum seconded the motion.

The motion carried.

Alderman Ketchum congratulated Josh Klatt for successfully completing his police training testing. Josh was in attendance in uniform with Officer Starman at the Council meeting.

Alderman Knight moved to adjourn this meeting at 6:15 p.m.
