Centralia FD responds to 92 fires in 2016

Centralia Fire Department responded to 251 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Central Reporter.

The calls in Centralia included 92 fires - 40 structure fires, 14 vehicle fires and 32 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $441,350 in fire loss - or about $4,797 per fire.

The department also received 159 false calls, including 13 malicious calls and 146 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Centralia Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 18 active employees and 26 retired or inactive employees, was $505,016 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $5,489 for every fire in 2016.
