The City of Carthage received a $402,480 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) for housing projects, the DCEO said today.

The state agency gave out more than $6 million in federal funds to 14 communities through Community Development Block Grant for Housing. The grants are awarded to low-to-moderate income communities looking to improve their housing stock, including renovating and retrofitting existing properties, according to a news release.

"Community development is essential for stable, safe and thriving neighborhoods," Gov. Bruce Rauner said in the release. "The state is proud to assist these communities in their efforts to bring better living conditions to their low-income residents through residential improvement and rehabilitation projects."
