Macomb Community Unit School District 185 Board met Oct. 19.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

1. Call to Order – Ms. Jill Myers, Board President

2. Pledge of Allegiance – Ms. Myers

3. Roll Call – Ms. Lisa Mooney, Board Recording Secretary

5. Recognition of Students, Staff Members, and Community Members – Ms. Myers

5.1 The Board of Education recognizes, Anna Grace “Annie” Powell, daughter of Molly Selders and Brian Powell, for being selected Senior of the Month for the month of October 2020. Annie has participated in many school activities, including tennis team, ecology club, Macomb Youth Leadership Organization, math team, thespians (president junior and senior years), madrigals, Bomber Bellas, National Honor Society, speech team and marching band. She has received high honors at solo and ensemble contests and was chosen to represent the McDonough County Power Co-op in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2019. Annie is also active in the community. She has played oboe in the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra for the last two years, and volunteers with Genesis Garden and local campaigns. Annie spends most of her time in Fellheimer Auditorium as a member of the MHS theater program. Her work experience includes serving as a volunteer coordinator for Genesis Garden’s Summer Meals Program. She is also a religious Education teacher at her church, the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship. After graduation from MHS, Annie will attend a liberal arts college to pursue her interests in political science and journalism.

This program is sponsored by the Mid-America National Bank, who established the program to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding senior students.

6. Board Comments and Correspondence – Ms. Myers

6.1 April 6, 2021 General Election - School Board: There are four (4) four-year terms and one (1) two-year unexpired term open for this election. Petitions are available at the District Administrative Service Center, 323 West Washington Street and may be circulated now. The filing period is Monday, December 14 thru Monday, December 21, 2020. Petitions must be filed at the McDonough County Clerk’s Office.

7.3 FOIA Request: The ADAC requested special education program data.

7.4 MJSHS Pool – need for heating/cooling/dehumidification unit

7.5 Presentation to Illinois State Board of Education – October 21

7.6 The Macomb Educational Foundation awarded a grant in the amount of $1,076.89 to Amy Morris, 2nd Grade Teacher at Lincoln Elementary, for purchase of Capstone Guided Reading Books for 2nd Grade. Thanks to the MEF for supporting the District’s teachers and students!

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for Monday, November 16, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in the C.T. Vivian Library at Macomb Jr./Sr. High School.
