The lawmaker former Rep. Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) supported to succeed him in the Illinois Legislature resigned after three days on the job, WGEM reported.

Edward Guerra Kodatt, a 26-year-old Southwest Chicago native, resigned by email to the House clerk.

"After learning of alleged questionable conduct by Mr. Kodatt, it was suggested that he resign as state representative for the 22nd District," Madigan and 13th Ward Alderman Marty Quinn said in a statement, WGEM reported. "We are committed to a zero-tolerance policy in the workplace."

They did not release details of the alleged misconduct.

Madigan resigned from the House in February after losing re-election as speaker in January. It was the end of a 50-year legislative career for the Chicago Democrat representing the Southwest side, with nearly 40 of those years as speaker.

Pressure mounted for Madigan's resignation after he was linked to a federally alleged bribery investigation last summer involving the state's largest utility, ComEd.

ComEd agreed to pay a $200 million fine for its role but did not admit wrongdoing. Federal authorities have not charged Madigan with any crimes to date. The former lawmaker has admitted no wrongdoing.
