City of Macomb Committee of the Whole met June 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Committee of the Whole, of the Macomb City Council, met in the City Council Chambers on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 5:15 p.m. located in City Hall at 232 East Jackson Street, Macomb, IL.

Mayor Inman called the meeting to order and roll call was taken, City Clerk Renee Lotz called the roll and the following were present: Aldermen Justin Schuch, John Vigezzi, Byron Shabazz, Dave Dorsett, Ashley Katz, Don Wynn, and Dennis Moon.

In addition to the Mayor, City Clerk, and Aldermen, City Attorney Lisa Scalf, and Public Works Director Alice Ohrtmann were present.

Public Comment. None

The first item on the agenda for discussion was on an ordinance to create a Special Event Liquor License for the St. Paul Parish’s Raising Saints Block Party Event. Mrs. Laura Cody from St. Paul School was present to give a brief description of the annual event. She stated this will be St. Paul’s 5th year for Raising Saints Block Party. The event will have free morning activities for children that will include; foam, bounce houses, water fun, snow cones, and face painting. The evening events will include; Captain Geech band, and singer Craig Corzatt.

She stated the goal for the event is to help support the children in the community, last year over $10,000.00 was raised and given back to local organizations. The event will be held on July 22, 2023, with morning events beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., the evening events beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the Knights of Columbus providing food and, anyone consuming alcohol will be carded at the entrance of the beer tent, must be 21.

There was no further discussion and Mayor Inman stated it would be placed on the agenda for second reading and final action at next Monday nights meeting.

The second item on the agenda for discussion was on the bid opening for the 2023 Roadway Mil-Overlay Project Phase 3. Public Works Director Ohrtmann stated bids for Phase 3 were opened on June 22, 2023. One bid was received, at $849,425.00 which was much higher than the engineer’s estimate of $608,000.00. However, the project in totality was under budget, at $1.4 million.

Alderman Vigezzi asked how many streets would be covered with the Mil-Overlay Project.

Public Works Director Ohrtmann listed the following; East Pierce Street from Randolph to White Street, the block of North Edwards north of the railroad tracks, Madelyn Ave, Memorial Drive, Bobby Ave, North Randolph north of University Drive, and the City Hall parking lot.

Mayor Inman stated they were aware of other roads in need of attention, and they would be prioritizing those in the future.

There was no further discussion and Mayor Inman stated this would be placed on the agenda for final action at next Monday nights meeting.

There was no further business.

There being no further business to come before Council, Alderman Vigezzi moved, seconded by Alderman Wynn to adjourn the meeting, all Alderman voting “Aye” by voice vote and no “Nay” votes, Mayor Inman declared the motion carried and they adjourned the meeting at 5:22 p.m.
