Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Carthage E.S.D. #317 Board of Education was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Board President Luke Burling.

Roll call: Jason Gunning/present; Amy Graham/present; Luke Burling/present; Robert Menn/present; Dillon Darbyshire/present; Drew Dickerson/present.

Additional Agenda Items: Mr. Burling requested discussion item 7B be added to the agenda to discuss the plan regarding the recent Temporary Restraining Order. Motion was made by Mr. Gunning and seconded by Mr. Dickerson. Roll Call: Mr. Gunning/yes; Mrs. Graham/yes; Mr. Burling/yes; Mr. Menn/yes; Mr. Darbyshire/yes; Mr. Dickerson/yes. Motion carried 6-0.

Recognition of individuals wishing to speak: None

Administrative Reports:

Mr. Day gave a report on revenues/expenditures and noted that the district has been awarded two more Federal Grants and a Home Safety Grant. He stated the ESSER III grant has been approved.

Mrs. Jacoby had nothing further to add to her report.

Mr. Scott noted that the 8th grade boys basketball team recently competed at the state level and MAP testing has begun.

It was moved by Mr. Menn and seconded by Mrs. Graham to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll Call: Mr. Gunning/yes; Mrs. Graham/yes; Mr. Burling/yes; Mr. Menn/yes; Mr. Darbyshire/yes; Mr. Dickerson/yes. Motion carried 6-0.

Discussion:

2022-23 School Calendar – the calendar was discussed and will be approved at the March meeting.

TRO – No changes are expected as far as our current plan.

It was moved by Mr. Gunning and seconded by Mr. Dickerson to enter into executive session at 7:38 p.m. for the purpose of discussing personnel. Roll Call: Mr. Gunning/yes; Mrs. Graham/yes; Mr. Burling/yes; Mr. Menn/yes; Mr. Darbyshire/yes; Mr. Dickerson/yes. Motion carried 6-0.

It was moved by Mr. Menn and seconded by Mr. Gunning to exit executive session at 9:08 p.m. Roll Call: Roll Call: Mr. Gunning/yes; Mrs. Graham/yes; Mr. Burling/yes; Mr. Menn/yes; Mr. Darbyshire/yes; Mr. Dickerson/yes. Motion carried 6-0.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office released its latest report detailing traffic accidents and citations from early April 2026, including several incidents involving deer collisions and speeding violations. The update also includes recent education statistics showing most high schoolers are below grade level in math and English based on SAT results.
