For fiscal year 2025, Carthage reported a median commercial property tax rate of 4.3%, placing it at the highest in Hancock County, according to BlockShopper.com.

The county’s median rate reached 3.3% in fiscal year 2025, with Carthage surpassing that by 1 percentage point.

Across Hancock County’s two cities, rates ranged from 2.1% in Nauvoo to 4.3% in Carthage.
