There have been 4,584 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cass County as of March 8, with 35 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (559,779 cases) and Cook County (555,163 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 7,279, while Cook County recorded 6,852 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 55,387,904, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 681,795 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,414,595 were male and 1,581,995 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 18,036, while female deaths stood at 14,942.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 20,711 whites, 6,087 African-Americans, 4,608 Hispanics, 1,024 Asians, and 548 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
