The Western Illinois University Leathernecks women’s tennis team earned a 4-0 victory against Tennessee State in Nashville, according to a March 18 announcement by Emma Hicken of Leatherneck Athletic Communications.

This win is significant as it continues the team’s strong performance in conference play. The Leathernecks compete at the NCAA Division I level and are members of the Ohio Valley Conference, according to the official website.

Western Illinois started by winning the doubles point. Mana Fawcett and Jessica Hess took a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Chloe Routier and Nadezhda Petkova secured a 6-3 victory at No. 2. In singles matches, Routier won at No. 1 with scores of 6-4, 6-3; Nour Gueblaoui claimed a decisive 6-1, 6-0 result at No. 3; and Richardlyne Francois sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2. With these results, Western Illinois clinched the overall match before other singles contests were completed.

The team operates from Macomb, Illinois and draws student-athletes from diverse global backgrounds, according to the official website. In addition to recent successes, Western Illinois University Leathernecks Women’s Tennis had a player earn The Summit League Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor in 2017 as reported by the official website.
