McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met Aug. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, and Julie Melvin. Member Terra Litchfield was absent. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Committee Secretary Stacey Alexander.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve July 11, 2022 Minutes

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Calvert to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Report received and filed.

Tri-County Recycling

Report received and filed.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Eight Veterans were given assistance in July. Total assistance amounted to $1,464.08.

Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff Nick Petitgout gave the report. He informed the Committee that he hired two new full time correctional officers and one new deputy. Petitgout distributed copies of the contract with the West Prairie School district for a resource officer. A change will be made to paragraph 1A, this will be sent to the Finance Committee.

Assessor’s Office Update

County Assessor Deborah Cousins informed the Committee that all township books are in and they are in the computer. There are still five township letters out and they are due on September 15th.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Kirby moved with a second by Member Melvin to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Executive Session

A motion to enter Executive Session was made by Member Hiel with a second by Member Durkin to discuss litigation under Sub-Section C11 of open meetings act at 7:23 p.m.

A motion to exit Executive Session was made by Member Hiel with a second by Member Melvin at 7:50 p.m. with no action taken.

Public Comment

None.

County Board Chair Comments

Circuit Clerk, Kim Wilson has resigned effected August 31, 2022.

Adjourn

Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Calvert to adjourn the meeting at 7:52 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
