McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met March 7.

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 201. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Lee Calvert, Eric Chapman, Michael Kirby, Terra Litchfield, Julie Melvin. Member absent was Travis Hiel. Other persons in attendance were County Chair Scott Schwerer, County Clerk DeJaynes, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Tim Lobdell, Sheriff Petitgout, Dave Schaab, Dana Walker, and Deborah Cousins.

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve February 7, 2022 Minutes

Member Calvert moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the minutes with correction. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Dave Schaab gave the report. Schaab reported that last month they collected 67.85 tons of recycling.

Tri-County Recycling

Tim Lobdell gave the report.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Eight Veterans were given assistance in February. Total assistance amounted to $1969.15

Sheriff’s Report

Sheriff Petitgout went over the report. The Sheriff reported that they are averaging a population of twenty five inmates.

Assessor’s Office Update

Supervisor of Assessments Deborah Cousins went over the report. Cousins reported that the Township Assessors picked up their books. Cousins also stated that the Assessors office hired a new employee.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that the County is still looking for a new County Engineer.

Member Melvin moved with a second by Member Kirby to adjourn the meeting at 7:24 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
