There have been 5,009 confirmed coronavirus cases in Pike County as of March 15, with 65 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (561,992 cases) and Cook County (556,995 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 7,312, while Cook County recorded 6,873 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 56,009,446, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 683,898 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,418,493 were male and 1,586,777 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 18,117, while female deaths stood at 15,022.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 20,819 whites, 6,124 African-Americans, 4,619 Hispanics, 1,025 Asians, and 552 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
