Swanson gets GOP nod in House District 74 race

In the March 15 Illinois House Republican primary for District 74, Michael DeSutter and Wayne Saline lost to Daniel Swanson. A total of 13,842 votes were cast. Swanson claimed a total of 6,719 votes, while DeSutter and Saline received 4,961 and 2,162 votes, respectively.

Swanson earned his highest number of votes (54 percent) from Bureau County. District 74 includes Bureau, Henry, Knox, Lee and Mercer counties.

In the Presidential Republican primary,  Donald Trump emerged ahead of the pack among Knox  County voters, claiming 37.7 percent of the votes. On the Democratic side, 51.83 percent of  Knox County voters supported Bernie Sanders, while 46.13 percent voted for Hillary Clinton.

In the Senate Republican race, James Marter  lost to Mark Kirk  among county voters. On the Democratic side, incumbent Sen. Tammy Duckworth took the lead with 27,241 votes over Andrea Zopp, who received 11,046 votes, and Napoleon Harris, who received 5,375 votes.
