During a recent meeting, the Jacksonville City Council confirmed the mayor’s reappointment of Dan Kindred to the board of commissioners of the Jacksonville Airport Authority.

The council also made changes to the city’s municipal code as it relates to alcoholic beverages. Under the new rule, beer and wine sales will be permitted at designated areas of the Jacksonville Downtown Plaza during all-day events from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and evening events from 5-10 p.m.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, a citizen asked how the state budget affects local government. Mayor Andy Ezard said state funds do not directly affect local government, but they do affect the community because state funds help pay for daily services through organizations such as the United Way. Ezard also said the absence of a state budget can have negative effects on small businesses and vendors, as well as on economic development and growth in the city, because people become reluctant to move to the state.
