The Jacksonville School District 117 Board of Education met  Aug. 24 to consider a contract with Maxim Health Services.

The Jacksonville District #117 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.

Jacksonville School District 117 Board of Education Special Meeting August 24, 2016

The Board of Education of Jacksonville School District 117 met in Special Session on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, beginning at 5:30 PM at the Central Office - 516 Jordan Street. Members present at roll call were Mrs. Ballard, Mr. Beard, Mr. Cantrell, Mr. Lonergan, Mrs. Maul, Ms. Wagner and Mrs. White. Also in attendance were Superintendent, Steve Ptacek, Assistant Superintendent, Dana Kinley, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Sarah Raynor and Chief Financial Officer, Jamie Hadjan.

RECEPTION OF VISITORS, PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS - None

APPROVAL OF AGENDA – Mr. Beard advised that there will be no personnel recommendations. Mr. Ptacek asked that a closed session reason be added to discuss security issues.

ANNOUNCEMENTS – Mr. Ptacek reported that glass has been installed in the doors on the northeast part of Turner. He also reported that maintenance will be painting the parking spots for visitors. He said the trailers are working well and students are adapting quickly. The band room is scheduled to be completed in two weeks.

CLOSED SESSION – Mr. Lonergan moved, seconded by Ms. Wagner to adjourn to Closed Session at 5:38 for:

• The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057.

• Student disciplinary cases. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9).

• Security procedures, school building safety and security, and the use of personnel and equipment to respond to an actual, a threatened, or a reasonably potential danger to the safety of employees, students, staff, the public, or public property. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(8), eff. 1//1/16.

OPEN SESSION – Mr. Lonergan moved, seconded by Mr. Cantrell to return to Open Session at 6:04pm. Roll: Lonergan, Cantrell, Ballard, Maul, Wagner, White and Beard. Nay; None.

ACTION ITEMS Student Discipline - Mrs. Maul moved, seconded by Mrs. White that the Board of Education amend the Resolution for Expulsion for student #276247932 to include placement at Crossroads Learning Center, as presented. Roll: Maul, White, Wagner, Cantrell, Ballard, Lonergan and Beard. Nay; None.

Consideration of Contract with Maxim Health Services – Mr. Lonergan moved, seconded by Mrs. Ballard that the Board of Education approve the contract for nursing services between Jacksonville School District 117 and Maxim Healthcare Services as presented. Roll: Lonergan, Ballard, Cantrell, White, Wagner, Maul and Beard. Nay; None.

Consideration to Dispose of Surplus Items – Mrs. Maul moved, seconded by Mr. Cantrell to approve the resolution to declare certain equipment as surplus and authorize the sale or disposal of said equipment. Roll: Maul, Cantrell, White, Ballard, Wagner, Lonergan, and Beard. Nay; None.

ADJOURNMENT – Mr. Lonergan moved, seconded by Mr. Cantrell to adjourn the meeting at 6:09pm. Roll: Lonergan, Cantrell, Ballard, Maul, Wagner, White and Beard. Nay: None.
