Trenton City Council met July 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

Call Meeting to Order

The special meeting of the Trenton City Council was called to order by Mayor Kyle Jones on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Roll Call

Hooker, Mohme, Sims, Weh, Woods, Zurliene, All present.

Also present were City Clerk Karen Buzzard, City Administrator Doug Brimm, Superintendent of Public Works Kurt Wehrle, Mike Conley, Kelly Ross, Mark Brown, the Trenton Police Force and representatives from Sugar Creek Ambulance, Sugar Creek Fire, and area Police Agencies.

Closed Session

Alderman Hooker made a motion to enter into closed session citing 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1) Appointment, Employment, Compensation, Discipline, Performance or Dismissal of Specific Employees of the Public Body. Second Alderman Weh all yes, motion carried. The Council entered closed session at 7:32 p.m.

The Council re-entered the special meeting at 7:54 p.m. Roll Call: Hooker, Mohme, Sims, Weh, Woods, Zurliene. All present.

New Business

Alderman Weh made a motion to Approve Appointment of Joe Heiligenstein as City Attorney. Second Alderman Zurliene, all yes, motion carried.

Alderman Hooker made a motion to Approve Appointment and Employment Agreement for Christopher Joellenbeck as Interim Police Chief. Second Alderman Mohme. Mayor Jones stated he takes full responsibility for the decision to move forward in this direction. He will not be appointing Tim Palen as Chief of Police nor City Attorney. Mayor Jones is excited about the direction of the police force thus far. Communications have improved dramatically. Roll Call: Hooker, yes, Mohme, yes, Sims, yes, Weh, abstain, Woods, yes, Zurliene, yes. Motion carried. Clerk Buzzard swore in Interim Chief Joellenbeck. Interim Chief Joellenbeck thanked everyone.

Alderman Sims made a motion to Approve Appointment of Ryan Weh as Police Sergeant. Second Alderman Hooker. Mayor Jones spoke of Officer Weh’s interest in leadership roles within the department and his commitment to the community. Roll Call: Zurliene, yes, Hooker, yes, Mohme, yes, Sims, yes, Weh, abstain, Woods, yes. Motion carried. Clerk Buzzard swore in Sergeant Weh.

Alderman Woods made a motion to adjourn. Second Alderman Hooker, all yes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
