Western Illinois finishes seventh at Stampede at the Creek golf tournament

Western Illinois University's men's golf team participated in the Stampede at the Creek invitational held at Indian Creek Golf Course in Elkhorn, Nebraska. The Leathernecks finished seventh with a score of +35 over the course of the event, which took place on Monday and Tuesday.

The team started with a first-round score of 300. They improved in the second round, achieving their best team score of 294. In the third round, they concluded with a score of 305. Collectively, the Leathernecks managed to shoot a total of 43 birdies throughout the tournament.

Senior player Parker Govern led Western Illinois. He ended with a three-round total score of 218. Govern's performance included a first-round score of 76, where he achieved two birdies on the back nine holes. In his second round, he scored 69 with six birdies, including consecutive birdies on holes two and three. His final round was completed with a score of 73 and three additional birdies.

Dylan Cervantes contributed to the team's efforts with an overall score of 228 across three rounds. Cervantes recorded scores of 77 in round one, followed by a second-round score of 75 that included two birdies, and concluded with a third-round score of 76.

Individual standings for Western Illinois players were as follows: Parker Govern finished tied for eighth place at +2; Dylan Cervantes tied for thirty-fourth at +12; Nathan Tillman placed forty-first at +14; Ryan Rochholz secured forty-second place at +15; Bayden Hubacher tied for forty-sixth at +18; while David Ayala did not complete all rounds.

The Leathernecks are set to compete next in Iowa City on April 15 during the Hawkeye Invitational.
