Western Illinois University's women's golf team has completed its 2024 signing class with the addition of Sophia Thorne from New Lenox, Illinois. Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen announced the signing, expressing enthusiasm for Thorne's future contributions to the team.
"WIU Women's Golf is excited to announce our final signee for Fall 24! Sophia is an all-around athlete with a proven IHSA track record," said Lukkarinen. "Her consistency and strong mental game will help her transition well to DI golf. I'm looking forward to seeing her accomplishments in purple and gold at WIU!"
Thorne has had a successful high school career, qualifying twice for the Illinois High School State Tournament and receiving multiple all-conference honors. In 2023, she secured first place in her conference tournament, playing a key role in her team's championship victory. She boasts a personal best score of 69 on the golf course.
