Western Illinois women’s basketball prepares for road test against Northern Illinois

The Western Illinois University women's basketball team is set to play against the Northern Illinois Huskies on Tuesday, November 11, at the Convocation Center in DeKalb, Illinois. The game will tip off at 6 p.m. CT.

Western Illinois enters the matchup with a 1-0 record after a decisive win over the Blue Jays. In that game, Mia Nicastro scored 26 points and demonstrated efficiency both from the field and beyond the arc. Raegan McCowan contributed 16 points and nine rebounds, establishing herself as an important presence inside. Kaylen Reed added seven assists and 10 points, helping to organize the offense. Allie Meadows also made an impact by hitting four three-pointers in her debut.

Northern Illinois comes into this contest with an 0-2 record. The Huskies are led by guard Nadechka Laccen, who averages 17 points per game and is a primary offensive contributor for her team. Nevaeh Wingate supports with an average of 13.5 points per game and leads NIU in assists, while Teresa Mbemba provides strength inside with a team-high average of 5.5 rebounds per game.

NIU is coached by Jacey Brooks in her first season leading the program. Brooks brings experience from her time at the University of Buffalo, where she contributed to a Mid-American Conference Championship run and led teams to postseason appearances including a WNIT championship during the previous season.

The last meeting between these two teams took place on November 12, 2023, when Western Illinois won by a score of 95-62.
