Western Illinois University's men's basketball team lost to CSU Bakersfield 74-58 on Tuesday night at the Icardo Center. The Leathernecks kept the first half close, trailing 38-32 at halftime after making five three-pointers and exchanging leads with the Roadrunners.
CSU Bakersfield started the second half with a 10-2 run, which created a gap that Western Illinois could not close. The Leathernecks managed only nine field goals in the second half.
Francis Okwuosah led Western Illinois with 14 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the field and hitting three of his four three-pointers in the first half before fouling out late in the game. Tyran Cook and Isaiah Griffin each scored 10 points, with Griffin also recording seven rebounds. Antwaun Massey contributed five points, five rebounds, and a team-high four blocks. Lucas Lorenzen added eight points and made all four of his free throws.
The Leathernecks shot 37 percent from the field (20-for-54) and made eight of their sixteen attempts from beyond the arc. They were out-rebounded by CSU Bakersfield 37-34 and gave up 26 points off 17 turnovers.
Western Illinois will finish its West Coast trip on Friday night against Cal Baptist, with tip-off set for 9:30 p.m. CT.
