Western Illinois University Leathernecks Men’s Baseball announced on May 4 that the team will travel to face Indiana State and Morehead State in a series of away games. The Leathernecks currently hold a record of 16-30 overall and are 8-13 in conference play.
The upcoming matchups include a game against Indiana State on May 6 at Bob Warn Field, followed by three games against Morehead State from May 8 to May 10 at Allen Field. These contests come after Western Illinois lost a series to UT Martin, despite an initial win led by strong offensive performances from Isaiah Monge, Kamryn Link, and Liam Bushey.
Indiana State enters the matchup after winning two out of three games at Southern Illinois and has performed well throughout the season against tough opponents such as NC State, Wake Forest, and Miami. The Sycamores have also recorded recent series wins over teams like Penn State and Evansville. Morehead State is described as a strong Ohio Valley Conference team with notable victories this year, including one over No. 18 Kentucky.
The all-time series between Western Illinois and Indiana State stands at 22-14 in favor of the Sycamores since their first meeting in 1950. Against Morehead State, the Eagles lead the historical record with two wins out of three meetings; their last encounter was won by Morehead in 2025.
Several players have achieved notable statistics this season: Liam Bushey ranks fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference for runs batted in (RBIs) with 52; Joe Connolly is third for runs scored with 54; Bushey is also fourth for home runs with thirteen.
