The Western Illinois University Leathernecks men’s baseball team lost to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) 4-2 on April 17 in Macomb.
The game was marked by strong pitching from SIUE, with starter Tim Teixeira allowing only one run over seven innings and striking out multiple batters. The Leathernecks struggled offensively, recording just four hits and striking out eleven times. Liam Bushey brought in the team’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, scoring Josh McClintock. Krayton Morse added a solo home run in the eighth, but it was not enough for a comeback.
Max Tripure pitched six innings for Western Illinois and struck out six batters during his time on the mound. The series is set to continue at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium as the Leathernecks aim to even up their record.
