Western Illinois University’s men’s soccer team lost 1-0 to Green Bay on Saturday at Northwest Field in Macomb. The game’s only goal was scored by Chris Album of Green Bay in the 33rd minute.

Despite trailing early, Western Illinois created several scoring opportunities but could not convert them into goals. The Leathernecks had a total of 11 shots compared to Green Bay’s eight. Benjamin Graham and Xavier Gagnon led Western Illinois with seven combined shots, four of which were on target.

Green Bay goalkeeper Drew Swancutt made five saves during the match, helping his team maintain the lead. For Western Illinois, Micah Ramirez recorded three saves, including two in the first half that kept the score close. Defenders Gabriel Velasco and Nathan Bessinger played the entire match for Western Illinois.

The contest was marked by physical play, with both teams combining for 28 fouls and four yellow cards—three issued to Green Bay and one to Western Illinois.

With this result, Western Illinois now has a season record of 2-4-0. The team will next face UIC on Thursday, September 11, in Chicago.
