The Western Illinois University Leathernecks women’s softball team lost the series finale to Eastern Illinois by a score of 7-4 on Sunday, Mar. 29, according to Nick Gordon of Leatherneck Athletic Communications.

The result marks another setback for the Leathernecks, who now hold an overall record of 8-20 and a conference record of 3-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The game began with Western Illinois taking an early lead when Payton Brown scored on a throwing error in the first inning. However, Eastern Illinois responded with five runs in their half of the opening frame, gaining control through an RBI walk and two doubles.

Western Illinois attempted a comeback by scoring one run in the fourth inning and adding two more in the fifth. Despite these efforts, they were unable to overcome the deficit from Eastern Illinois’ strong start. The team will return home next weekend for a matchup against Tennessee Tech.
