Western Illinois University’s track and field team delivered notable performances at the Iowa Open, earning event titles and setting personal records. The program, which is based in Macomb, Illinois, represents the university as the Leathernecks and competes in the Ohio Valley Conference’s indoor and outdoor championships. Senior Rayvon Wright led the team’s efforts by winning the triple jump with a mark of 14.30 meters (46-11.00) and placing second in the high jump at 1.95 meters (6-4.75). In men’s pole vault, senior Arnie Grunert cleared 5.10 meters (16-8.75) to secure first place, while freshman Nathan McLoughlin achieved a season-best clearance of 4.90 meters for second place.

On the track, freshman Kenneth Cooley recorded a personal-best time of 22.14 seconds in the 200 meters. DonPaul Kieth posted a time of 7.07 seconds in the 60-meter preliminaries, leading the Leathernecks’ men’s sprints, while senior Mya Hippolyte (7.92) and freshman Rhianna Davis (7.95) led on the women’s side.

The distance runners also set new personal bests: Brody Harker ran 2:00.63 in the 800 meters and Eason Comer finished the mile in 4:31.21. For the women’s team, Marissa Shute recorded an 11:23.27 finish in the 3000 meters.

In field events, freshman Kamaya McDuffy threw a personal-best of 11.36 meters in shot put, while Nakeita Kessling earned a top-10 finish in triple jump.

The meet concluded with a win from the women’s 4×400-meter relay team, who posted a season-best time of 3:57.52.

The Western Illinois University Leathernecks Men’s Track & Field program is recognized as an important part of collegiate athletics at Western Illinois University and has recently achieved new program records in pole vault and relay events during the 2023-24 season (source).
