The Western Illinois University Leathernecks Women’s Golf team will conclude its season at the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) tournament, which begins on April 19 in Dalton, Georgia.
This event marks an important opportunity for the Leathernecks, who compete as part of the Ohio Valley Conference according to the official website. The team operates from Macomb, Illinois and is led by director of golf Charlton Zimmerman, as reported by the official website.
The OVC tournament will take place at Dalton Golf and Country Club, a par-72 course that plays 6,100 yards over three rounds. The field includes teams such as Southern Indiana, Lindenwood, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, Little Rock, Eastern Illinois, Bryant and Morehead State. Southern Indiana typically posts team scoring averages between 315–325. Lindenwood records about six to ten birdies per round as a team. Tennessee Tech is often strongest on par-5 holes with even to -3 scoring per round. Tennessee State averages four to eight birdies per round. Little Rock has one of the stronger programs with average scores between 298–308. Eastern Illinois averages ten to fifteen birdies per round with steady lineup distribution. Bryant’s leading player generally scores between 75–78 with occasional under-par stretches while Morehead State usually averages a team score between 300–312.
Previously at the Jan Weaver Invitational event this season, Sophia Thorne led Western Illinois finishing at +25 for a tie at 41st place after rounds of 76, 78 and 82. Cianna Law followed at +32 (T44), highlighted by an impressive final-round score of 81; Dina Khvastovich finished at +40 in 47th place after also carding an 81 in her last round.
