Western Illinois women’s tennis falls to Saint Louis in home match

The Western Illinois University women’s tennis team lost 4-2 to Saint Louis University in a home match held in Macomb, Illinois. The Leathernecks began the competition by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Chloe Routier and Nadezhda Petkova won their match against Naima Luthra and Aryn Walker 6-3, while Jessica Hess and Mana Fawcett also posted a 6-3 victory over Madison Hill and Emmerson White. The No. 1 doubles team of Madeleine Whip and Richardlyne Francois narrowly lost in a close 7-6 contest.

In singles play, Saint Louis claimed four victories to secure the overall win. Chloe Routier earned a straight-set win for WIU at No. 3 singles, defeating Madison Hill 6-3, 6-2. Nour Gueblaoui added another point for the Leathernecks at No. 4 singles after defeating Naima Luthra in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Saint Louis took the remaining singles matches: Emmerson White defeated Richardlyne Francois at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-2), Fiorella Duran beat Mana Fawcett at No. 2 (6-0, 6-2), and Aryn Walker overcame Denver Johnson at No. 6 (6-3, 6-4). The match between Jessica Hess and Nicolly Ferreira at No. 5 ended with a retirement.

Western Illinois University Leathernecks Women’s Tennis competes in NCAA Division I athletics as part of the Ohio Valley Conference and is based in Macomb, Illinois according to its official website. The program draws student-athletes from diverse global backgrounds and has achieved victories during previous seasons including wins over IUPUI Jaguars and Coe College (source).

The Leathernecks will travel to face Omaha and Creighton on February 20 and February 21.
