The Jacksonville Public Library recently held a board meeting to review bids received for the front steps repair project.

Larry Quenette from Renaissance Architects Inc. assessed the two bids received for the project and recommended the board choose Evans-Mason Inc. Evans-Mason submitted the lowest responsible bid at $40,295. The board accepted this recommendation.

Quenette also recommended a contingency fund be created in the amount of $10,000. This money would be used for any emergency that comes up during the renovation process. The board accepted the recommendation.

During the director’s report, it was noted that recent events had gone well at the library. The English Conversation Group met on each Wednesday of the month, and the book club recently read Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell. In January, the library hosted a salute to Mozart concert and a FAFSA workshop for college students and high school students.

Present at the meeting were President Mary Fergurson, Forrest Keaton, Noel Beard, Craig Albers, Ted Roth, Kevin Eckhoff, Robert Underbrink, Elizabeth Kennedy, Library Director Chris Ashmore and Assistant Library Director Hillary Peppers.
