Pawnee CUSD board receives summer school enrollment report

The Pawnee Community Unit School District No. 11 Board of Education met June 16 to report on summer school enrollment.

The Pawnee Community Unit School District No. 11 Board of Education meets on the third Thursday of each month. An executive session begins at 6 p.m. followed by an open session at 7 p.m. Meetings are held at the district office, 810 Fourth St.

Action 1. Call to Order and Roll Call

President Craigmiles called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm

Members present: Craigmiles, Kern, Shelton, Starr

Members absent: Adcock, Ward, Wort

Administrators Present: Alexander, Kratochvil, Loftus, and Recording Secretary,

Hamilton.

Info 2. Request Closed Session to discuss the employment, compensation,

resignation of specific employees of the District, collective bargaining matters between the

District and its employees or their representative, student discipline and to discuss pending or

probable litigation as provided by 5ILCS 120/2(C)1,2,9, and 11.

Motion: Adjourn to Executive session to discuss the employment, compensation,

Info 3. Communications

A letter of appreciation and congratulations for monetary support from the Heart Association

was shared with the board.

Info 4. Good News

Fifty students have signed up for summer school, which starts 6/20/16. Gage NewinghamClarke

and Garrett Gillette qualified for the State Track Meet. The summer cleaning and repairs

are progressing well.

Info 5. Approval of Minutes

Action 5.1 Approve regular board meeting minutes of May 23, 2016

Motion: Approve the 5/23/16 regular board meeting minutes.

6. Approval of Financial Reports and Expenditures

Action 6.1 Consideration and approval of financial reports and expenditures

Motion: Approve bills of $14,910.28; addendum bills of $10,792.16; and the financial

reports.

6.2 Consideration and approval of Interfund Loan from Working Cash

to IMRF in the amount of $17,700

Due to early tax collections an Interfund Loan will not be necessary to cover the shortage in

IMRF

6.3 Consideration and approval to adjust line item in the 2015-2016

budget

Motion: Approve the necessary line item adjustment to the 2015/2016 budget due to the

NCLB amendment and changes in planned spending.

Info 7. Recognition of Visitors

Principal Kratochvil introduced Jason Kirkendoll, one of the recommended football coaching

volunteers.

Reports herein attached.

Superintendent Alexander reported that he had received an inquiry about the possibility of

petitioning the State Board to waive tuition for teacher’s children living outside the district. The

board decided to further discuss and explore if other districts offer this benefit and what would

be the community’s reaction.

9. New Business

Action 9.1 Consideration and approval to accept personnel resignation

Motion: Accept the resignation of Tera Schwartz as Kindergarten instructor.

The board wished her well, she will be greatly missed.

Motion: Accept the resignation of Travis Simpson as JV Basketball coach.

Action 9.2 Consideration and approval of employment for certified teaching positions

and extra-curricular positions

Motion: Employ Bailie Lantz as GS instructor for 2016/2017.

Motion: Employ Rachel Smith as GS instructor for 2016/2017.

Action 9.4 Consideration and approval of football and junior high softball volunteers

Motion: Approve Jason McKenzie, Joe Fisher, Jeff Kirkendoll and Jason Kirkendoll as

football volunteer assistants and Jeff Jarrett, Brandon Schutt, and Matt Hinds as

volunteer JH softball assistants.

Action 9.5 Consideration and approval of non-certified pay increase

Motion: Approve the non-certified pay increases as recommended by the administration.

Motion: Approve the administrative pay increases of 1.5% as discussed.

Action 9.7 Consideration and approval of Elementary and Jr/Sr High

Handbook for 2016-2017

It was noted the wording in “Access to Student Social Media” section should say “permission”

and not just “consult.”

Motion: Approve the 16/17 Elementary and Jr/Sr High Handbooks.

The motion was tabled pending further review by the school attorney pertaining to mandatory

language requirements.
