I-70 Baseball Clinic gains tourism committee's support

The city of Greenville Tourism Committee met June 23 to approve a request support from the I-70 Baseball Clinic submitted by the athletic director at Greenville High School.

"The Tourism Committee shall develop plans to promote tourism and make recommendations to the city council for use of proceeds from the hotel/motel tax collected."

Call to Order

The meeting of the Tourism Committee was called to order by Chairman Sharon Grimes at 5:15 p.m.

Roll Call

Present: Chairman Sharon Grimes, Members Amrish Patel, Sherry Schaefer, Bill Walker, Laura Wall

Also Present: Jody Weiss, Recording Secretary, Joe Alstat, GHS Athletic Director

Review of Previous Minutes

The minutes of the May 26, 2016 Tourism meeting were reviewed. Moved by Walker, seconded by Wall, to approve the minutes. All voted in favor of approving the minutes.

NEW BUSINESS

? A funding request from the I-70 Baseball Clinic was submitted and represented by Joe Alstat, Athletic Director at Greenville High School. The event will be held on January 15 and 16. The 2016 event brought in 350 coaches from 10 states, from as far as Ohio, Tennessee and Georgia. This is a two day clinic with the second day having a tabletop show in addition to the featured speakers. Walker made a motion to approve the $3000 request to fund advertising, and Schaefer seconded. All voted in favor of funding the request.

? A funding request from the Bond County Fair Association was submitted. This is a budgeted event, and needed now more than ever due to the State Budget Crisis. Wall made a motion to approved the $2000 amount and Patel seconded. All voted in favor of the funding request.

OLD BUSINESS

NONE

The next scheduled meeting is Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 5:15 pm.

Patel made a motion to adjourn, and Walker seconded, and all voted in favor. The meeting adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
