The Brighton Memorial Library District Board of Trustees held a special meeting Aug. 4 to discuss plans for posting the position of library director.

August 4, 2016

The meeting was called to order by Carolyn Kelly, President at 7:02. Board Members present:

Meridel Buscher, Elizabeth Harper, Shannon Mary, Brooke Seymour, Amy Taul and Sheila Wilkie. Library Director Karen Sinks was also present.

About two dozen visitors were present.

Webb Cunningham asked when visitors were speaking. Carolyn Kelly said after business.

He also asked if the meeting was being recorded. Lori Beilsmith proceeded to record on phone.

!) Certification of petitions

Board addressed the reason why the petitions were not going to be certified on the ballot: the question was improper. Proponents filed an emergency injunction. Court date is Friday, August 5 at 2.p.m. at the Carlinville courthouse.

2) Qualifications and Responsibilities of the Library Director Board decided to go with what we had previously discussed.

3) Posting the position of Library Director Will post ad in the SW Journal, the library, ILHS service and online. Applicants have 14 days to respond in writing to the P.O. Box.

4) Discussion of the budget for fiscal year 2016-17.

Tabled due to lawsuit.

5) Building Options

Tabled due to lawsuit.

Visitors Comments:

Webb Cunningham addressed the crowd to inform them of the court date on August 5.

Other questions: Why was the annexation done? When did the library become a district? When did the library carry out the annexation? Why weren't library cards sent out?

All questions were answered by the board.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. meeting at Brighton Memorial Library*. A motion to adjourn was made by Meridel Buscher at 7:41 p.m.
