The Jerseyville City Council met Aug. 2 to approve a $1,000 tourism grant from Got Faith.
The Jerseyville City Council makes laws, budgets city money, investigates city agencies and employees as needed, and generally serves as the legislative division of the municipal government. The council meets at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

AUGUST 2, 2016
The Jerseyville City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the Jerseyville City Hall.
Roll call: Present were Commissioners Steve Pohlman, Gary Goetten, Kevin Stork, Richard Perdun and Mayor Bill Russell. Also present was City Attorney, Bill Strang.
Comm. Perdun led the opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
A motion was made by Comm. Goetten and seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to approve the minutes of the last regular meeting on July 18, 2016. Roll call vote showed all ayes; no nays, motion carried.
A motion was made by Comm. Perdun and seconded by Comm. Stork, to approve the minutes of a Special Council meeting on July 19, 2016. Roll call vote showed all ayes; no nays, motion carried.
A motion was made by Comm. Stork, seconded by Perdun, to approve the bills as presented which totaled $550,979.86. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.
The Presentation from the Marine Corp League was table until a member could be in attendance to make the presentation.
A motion was made by Comm. Perdun, seconded by Comm. Goetten, to approve the purchase of a new command vehicle for the Jerseyville Fire Department in the amount of $34,765.00. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.
A motion was made by Comm. Perdun, seconded by Comm. Stork, to approve the tourism grant from Got Faith in the amount of $1000 to support the fundraiser to feed and inspire the hungry. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.
A motion was made by Comm. Goetten, seconded by Comm. Stork, to approve the attendance of the P&R staff (3) at the National Recreation & Parks Assoc. (NRPA) in St. Louis, October 5-7 at America’s Center Convention Complex. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.
A motion was made by Comm. Goetten, seconded by Comm. Stork, to approve the attendance of Dir. Angela Sullivan at the Aquatic Facility Operator Course offered by the Missouri Parks & Recreation Assoc., October 3-4, 2016, and the Illinois Food Service Manager course offered by the Jersey County Health Dept. in November with the date TBA. This will allow Dir. Sullivan to retain her certifications that she now has. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.
A motion was made by Comm. Stork, seconded by Comm. Perdun, to approve the Estimation of Revenues for 2016-2017 to accompany the Appropriation Ordinance when filed at the County Clerk’s office. The Total of the Estimated Revenues is $11,132,205. Comm. Stork noted that the biggest increase was in the anticipated Grant for the Curtis/Adams Project at $408,000. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.
Comm. Perdun announced that the ball tournament was a big success at the Dolan Park. Mayor Russell asked all the residents to refrain from blowing their grass clippings out into the street to clog up the sewer system. The City would be preparing an ordinance to prohibit this. Dir. Sullivan introduced Christina Smith from the Jersey County Health Dept. who wanted to introduce an initiative, county wide, for tobacco-free parks in our area. Boy Scouts from Troup 69 were in attendance to earn their communications badges.
A motion was made by Comm. Goetten, seconded by Comm. Stork, to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing purchase/sale of property. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried. Open session resumed and a motion was made by Comm. Perdun, seconded by Comm. Stork, to adjourn the meeting. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.
