Illinois State University grad students wrap up research internship project with RR Donnelley
Two Illinois State University Department of Technology analytics graduate students recently concluded a special internship project involving research with the logistics branch of marketing firm RR Donnelley.
Pooja Jain and Ruchi Shivhare helped analyze various business processes by using analytics and simulations to help the company's business operations. Techniques used in their research were learned during classes at the Department of Technology's quality management and analytics graduate program.
The greater scope of the project helped determine costs by extracting big data and utilizing an event simulation modeler to predict operational outcomes. The project was presented to representatives from the university and RR Donnelley in November.
RR Donnelley and Illinois State technology professor Borinara Park developed an internship plan that has been in place for several years to promote active engagement between the Department of Technology’s quality management and analytics graduate program and various business units within RR Donnelley.
This particular project helped with the school's outreach program while laying the groundwork for future collaborations with RR Donnelley and other industry partners.
