River Forest School District No. 90 Board holds Town Hall Forum to discuss student achievement

River Forest School District No. 90 Board of Education met Tuesday, Dec. 6.

COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING

December 6, 2016

Mr. Martire called the Committee of the Whole Meeting to order at approximately 7:03 p.m. and welcomed visitors and invited comments from the audience. A copy of the Speakers Roster as well as the Attendance Roster is included in the official minutes.

It was moved by Mrs. Hickey and seconded by Mrs. Gottlieb that the Board of Education approve the agenda as presented.

On call of the roll, the vote was as follows: Ayes: Mr. Moore, Mrs. Gottlieb, Mrs. Hickey, Mr. Latham, Mr. Ebert, Ms. Williams, Mr. Martire

Nays: none

The motion carried.

Education Committee Mr. Martire thanked everyone in the audience for coming to the first “Town Hall Forum” and turned it over to Mr. Moore. Mr. Moore introduced Dr. Condon and Dr. Hawley to present the Student Achievement Report and the District 90 Student Assessment Program. Dr. Hawley recognized Phil Earwolino, data consultant, who provided the data that was discussed in the program. She highlighted the District's assessment philosophy, including types of assessment (PARCC, MAP, formative, summative) and the purpose of assessment, and discussed such items as 21" century college and career readiness; the assessments required by the State; student growth and achievement; and District-specific assessment performance data.

The Board then opened the meeting to the audience for an informal question and answer forum. There were a series of questions by the residents in attendance that were answered by Board members, Dr. Condon, Dr. Hawley and the rest of the District Administration.

Mr. Martire noted that it was the commitment of the Board to periodically hold this type of meeting throughout the year, every year. He once again thanked the residents for attending, saying that it would not be possibie without their support and attention.

Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the Committee of the Whole Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:32 p.m.
