Canton Union School District 66 Board of Education met February 3.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

1. Call to Order

Board Vice-President Jane Lewis called the special board meeting to order in the boardroom at 5:34 PM.

2. Roll Call

Board members present and answering roll call were: Lori Coleman, Matt Kees, Jane Lewis, Jake Snowman, and Tom Snowman. Absent was board member Leonard Barnard.

3. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag

Vice-President Lewis led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance.

4. Recognition of Audience Requests to address Board of Education

There were no audience requests to address the Board of Education.

5. Closed Session

A. Discuss the selection of a person to fill public office, as defined in this Act,

including a vacancy in a public office, when the public body is given power to appoint under law or ordinance. – [5 ILCS 120/2(c)(3)] 

B. Discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the district. – [5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)]

Board member Matt Kees moved to enter closed session to discuss the selection of a person to fill public office, as defined in this Act, including a vacancy in a public office ,when the public body is given power to appoint under law or ordinance [5 ILCS 120/2(c)(3)] and to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the district [5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)]. Board member Lori Coleman seconded. Voting yes by roll call were board members Kees, Coleman, Lewis, J. Snowman, and T. Snowman. Motion carried.

6. Action Items

A. Consider the Appointment of a Person to Fill a Vacancy on the Canton Union School District #66 Board of Education Created by the Resignation of Former Board Member Justin Jochums

Board member Lori Coleman moved to appoint Ben Bishop to fill the vacancy, created by the resignation of former board member Justin Jochums, on the Canton School District Board of Education. Board member Jake Snowman seconded. Voting yes by roll call were board members Coleman, J. Snowman, Kees, Lewis, and T. Snowman. Motion carried.

7. Discussion Items

A. Discuss Football Scoreboard

The Board discussed the gift of a football scoreboard to the district and reviewed the options to determine the most appropriate scoreboard for installation in the Canton School District.

8. Adjourn Special Meeting

Board member Lori Coleman moved to adjourn the special meeting. Board member Jake Snowman seconded. Voting yes by roll call were board members, Coelman, J. Snowman, Kees, Lewis, and T. Snowman. Motion carried.

Vice-President Lewis declared the special meeting adjourned at 7:44 PM.
