The West Prairie School District #103 Board of Education met on March 23, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., in a regularly scheduled meeting, at West Prairie High School. Board members present were: Matt Zimmerman, Scott Vogler, Jeff Morrell, Sherrie Weaver, Lisa Butterfield, and Lee Moore. Members absent: Matt Mencel. Mencel arrived at 7:22 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance:
The Board and audience stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Students of the Month:
Middle School Students of the Month selected by the West Prairie staff were: fifth grade, Kenlee Welsh; sixth grade, Gracyn Welsh; seventh grade, Ali Arnold; eighth grade, Madison Calvert. High School Students of the Month were freshman, Johnnie Dean; sophomore, Anderson Poulter; junior, Erica Clark; senior, Clay Herron. Most Improved Senior of the 3rd Quarter, Jordyn Bartlett.

Consent Agenda:
Morrell moved and Butterfield seconded to approve the February 23, 2017 regular meeting minutes, March 9, 2017 regularly scheduled meeting minutes, acceptance of gifts and the bills and activity accounts. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried. Gifts accepted: $1,000 South Elementary PTO – field trips $125 Fred and Tiffani Kitch – field trip
Reports:Principal Watson announced that the middle school student-led conferences were a huge success. She presented the results of the parent survey.

Approve the Renewal of the 2017-2018 IHSA Membership:Vogler moved and Weaver seconded to approve the renewal of the 2017-2018 IHSA membership for West Prairie High School. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried.
Place Policies on First Reading:
Policies 2:80, 2:80E, 2:105, 2:130, and 2:210 were introduced on first reading.
Discussion of Matters Pertaining to the BWP Athletic CO-OP:
The board discussed matters pertaining to the BWP Athletic Co-op. Discussion only.
Approve the Date for the April Regular Board Meeting:
Vogler moved and Moore seconded to approve April 19, 2017 as the April regular board meeting date. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried. The meeting will be held at West Prairie High School at 7:00 p.m.
Executive Session:
Weaver moved and Butterfield seconded to enter into executive session at 8:06 p.m. to consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, compensation, performance of an employee or employees, contractual matters, collective bargaining matters, and personnel matters. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried.
Return to Open Session:
Vogler moved and Mencel seconded to return to open session at 10:14 p.m. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried.
Employ Maintenance/Custodial:Moore moved and Weaver seconded to accept the employment of Steven Whitlock as maintenance/custodian upon the completion of all pre-employment requirements. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried.
Internal Transfer of Custodian:
Mencel moved and Butterfield seconded to approve the transfer of James Lozier from Middle School Custodian to Grounds/Custodian. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried.
Accept Resignation:
Weaver moved and Morrell seconded to accept the resignation of Lisa Duffy (Bus Driver) effective the last day of the school May 2017. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Vogler, Morrell, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Moore. Nays: None. The motion carried.
