The price of local government: City of Red Bud

The City of Red Bud budget was $10.52 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $6,846.22 per household.

That's an increase of 0.2 percent from 2014, when the city spent $10.50 million, or $6,832.79 per household.

Red Bud has 1,536 households and a population of 3,700.

Since 2001, the City of Red Bud budget has grown by 252.5 percent, from $2.98 million. The city population has grown 8.1 percent over the same period, from 3,422.

Salaries accounted for 15.4 percent of city spending in 2015. Red Bud property taxpayers paid $1.62 million for 45 full-time employees, or an average of $35,981.18 each, before their health care benefits and taxpayer-funded pension contributions.
