Analysis: Sales tax funded 8 percent of City of Monmouth budget in 2016

The City of Monmouth's local sales tax brought in $1,300,365 in 2016, according to Illinois State Comptroller revenue data. Monmouth, population 9,244, relied on its local sales tax to contribute 8 percent of total revenue that year.

West Central Reporter analyzed the sales tax collections in one Warren County suburbs and found they generated a total of $1,300,365 in tax revenue in 2016. That was the equivalent of 8% spent by local government.
