Edgar County Watchdogs co-founder John Kraft has filed a complaint against the Village of Sawyervlle for allegedly refusing to turn over files following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
Kraft claims his March request sought information on the construction of the village hall building, water bill payment locations and the use of public resources. The village refused his request in writing and by phone, telling him that to see any public records he would have to make an appointment, according to his post on the group's Illinois Leaks website.
"I’m wondering if they took advice from Carlinville’s Mayor DeMuzio and the Electoral Board Attorney who gave Carlinville bad advice," Kraft said, referencing an ongoing battle between the watchdogs and Carlinville regarding credit card records.
