V.I.T. Community Unit School District #2 Board met Nov. 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the V.I.T. Community Unit School District #2

Board of Education was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Bob Marshall in the High School Library.

Roll call was answered by: Bob Coulter, Jared Heller, Don Hood, Bob Lascelles, Bob Marshall, and Larry Payne.

Others present were: Scot Reynolds, Superintendent, Tracey Korsmeyer, Principal, Matt Klaska, Principal, Travis Snowden, Aaron Bucher, Lorretta Spencer, and Lyndall Snowden.

A motion was made by Don Hood and seconded by Bob Lascelles to approve the consent agenda which consisted of previous meeting minutes, financial reports, bills and payroll, and activity fund reports. Roll call: Coulter, aye; Heller, aye; Hood, aye; Lascelles, aye; Marshall, aye; and Payne, aye. The motion carried with a 6-0 roll call vote.

A motion was made by Bob Lascelles and seconded by Jared Heller to enter executive session to address a parent concern at 7:02 a.m. Roll call: Coulter, aye; Heller, aye; Hood, aye; Lascelles, aye; Marshall, aye; and Payne, aye. The motion carried with a 6-0 roll call vote.

A motion was made by Don Hood and seconded by Larry Payne to return to open session at 7:33 p.m. Motion carried with an all AYE vote.

A motion was made by Bob Coulter and seconded by Jared Heller to approve the minutes of the executive session. Motion carried with an all AYE vote.

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

The Board considered the posting of the Levy 2017 payable in 2018. The Board approved a Truth in Taxation/Levy Hearing to be held on December 20th , 2017 at 6:50 p.m. The proposed levy will have a 6;42% increase over previous year.

The Board discussed travel arrangements for the Triple I Conference. Jared Heller was appointed the IASB Delegate to the Triple I Conference.

A motion was made by Don Hood and seconded by Larry Payne to have a March 10th , 2018 Strategic Planning Meeting for the VIT CUSD #2 Board and Administration. Motion carried with an all AYE vote. At the meeting, the Board and Administration will map out the year ahead and set goals for the District.

A motion was made by Larry Payne and seconded by Bob Lascelles to approve the copier plan improvements which included new Toshiba copiers at an increased price of $50 per month. Roll call: Coulter, aye; Heller, aye; Hood, aye; Lascelles, aye; Marshall, aye; and Payne, aye. The motion carried with a 6-0 roll call vote.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Principal Korsmeyer reported that Dalton Haney was the November Student of the Month. Semester exams will be Monday, Dec. 18 th and Tuesday, Dec. 19 th. Wednesday, Dec. 20 th will be used as a make-up day. Principal Korsmeyer reported on an Understanding Autism Assembly that was presented by Lori Evans to her building.

Lydia Payne was the Elementary Good Citizen of the Month. Principal Klaska commented on the nice Veteran’s Day Celebration presented for the District at the high school. Principal Klaska gave an update on the solutions to the Speech Teacher’s maternity leave. Mason District Hospital will pay for Tiny Eye’s program and an aide to monitor it. The new Smartboards have been delivered and installed.

A motion was made by Jared Heller and seconded by Don Hood to enter executive session at 8:10 p.m. for the purpose of discussing negotiations, student discipline, and/or personnel. Roll call: Coulter, aye; Heller, aye; Hood, aye; Lascelles, aye; Marshall, aye; and Payne, aye. The motion carried with a 6-0 roll call vote. Sara Porter entered the meeting at 8:16 p.m.

A motion was made by Don Hood and seconded by Larry Payne to return to open session at 9:41 p.m. Motion carried with an all AYE vote.

A motion was made by Larry Payne and seconded by Bob Coulter to approve the minutes of the executive session. Motion carried with an all AYE vote.

A motion to adjourn was made by Jared Heller and seconded by Don Hood at 9:42 p.m. Motion carried with an all AYE vote.
