West Prairie Community Unit School District 103 Board met January 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The West Prairie School District #103 Board of Education met on January 25, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., in a regularly scheduled meeting, at West Prairie High School. Board members present were: Scott Vogler, Matt Zimmerman, Lee Moore, Sherrie Weaver, Lisa Butterfield, Matt Mencel, and David Geltmacher. Members absent: None.

Pledge Of Allegiance:

The Board and audience stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Students Of The Month:

Middle School Students of the Month selected by the West Prairie staff were: fifth grade, Paige Kitch; sixth grade, Trey Haffner; seventh grade, Gracyn Welsh; eighth grade, Kyle Rhoads.

High School Students of the Month for December were: freshman, Alli Kahlke; sophomore, Kaitlin Griffith; junior, Ben Havens; senior, Emily Bartlett. The January students of the month were: freshman, Brooklyn Welsh; sophomore, David Hoffman; junior, Anderson Poulter; senior, Alisha Clark.

Consent Agenda:

Zimmerman moved and Moore seconded to approve the December 14, 2018 regular meeting minutes, the bills and activity accounts, and the acceptance of a $5,000 donation from the Annual Good Hope Turkey Trot for the Good Hope Ball Diamond. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Standing Reports:

Attendance, Community Engagement and Administrative reports were provided to board members. No action taken.

Building Plan On A Page Reports:

Building administrators provided Plan on a Page reports to the board. Discussion only.

Development Of The 2018-2019 School Calendar:

The board discussed the 2018-2019 public school calendar. Discussion only.

Evaluation Of The Superintendent:

Approve The Purchase Of An Activity Bus As Presented:

Mencel moved and Zimmerman seconded to approve the purchase of an Activity Bus from Central States Bus Sales in the amount of $57,386 as presented. Those members voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Executive Session:

Moore moved and Geltmacher seconded to enter into executive session at 8:13 p.m. to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. However, a meeting to consider an increase in compensation to a specific employee of a public body that is subject to the Local Government Wage Increase Transparency Act may not be closed and shall be open to the public and posted and held in accordance with this Act. 5 ILCS 120/2 (c) (1), and collective bargaining matters between the public body and its employees or their representative, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes on employees. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), and discussion of minutes of meetings lawfully closed under the Open Meetings Act, whether for purposes of approval by the body of the minutes or semi-annual review of the minutes as mandated by Section 2.06. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(21). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Return To Open Session:

Weaver moved and Zimmerman seconded to return to open session at 9:50 p.m. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Employment:

Weaver moved and Mencel seconded to offer employment to Doug Burford as Transportation Mechanic pending all employment requirements and background checks (Probationary status: February 14, 2018-June 1, 2018 @ $16.00 per hour). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Mencel moved and Butterfield seconded to offer employment to Karmen Peck as a part-time cook/clerk at North Elementary (current sub with background check and employment clearance). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Geltmacher moved and Mencel seconded to offer employment to Keri Goodpasture as a part-time cook at South Elementary (current sub with background check and employment clearance). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Weaver moved and Zimmerman seconded to offer employment to Joana Tilstra as the Head Coach for the 2017-2018 BWP Girls Softball season. (Current BPC teacher with background check and employment clearance.) Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Moore moved and Mencel seconded to offer employment to Jerry Allen as the Assistant Coach for the 2017-2018 BWP Girls Softball season (pending all employment and background checks). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Weaver moved and Geltmacher seconded to offer employment to Shawn Larson as a special education paraprofessional at South Elementary (am) and North Elementary (pm) starting January 26, 2018. (Current sub with background check and employment clearance). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Zimmerman moved and Mencel seconded to offer employment to Wendy Royer as MS Physical Education and Health teacher. (BS+24, 17 years of service pending review of transcripts). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Resignations/Retirements:

Mencel moved and Zimmerman seconded to accept the resignation/retirement of Gerald Beck (Bus Driver) effective at the end of the 2017-2018 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Zimmerman moved and Geltmacher seconded to accept the resignation of Hali Hagar (Assistant BWP Girls Softball Coach) effective January 25, 2018. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Leave:

Mencel moved and Moore seconded to approve the unpaid leave of Lisa Davison (WPMS Special Education) (Date: January 11, 2018 @.5 day and January 19, 2018 @.5 day). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Zimmerman, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: Vogler, Moore. The motion carried.

Release Of Executive Session Minutes:

Zimmerman moved and Weaver seconded to approve the release of executive session minutes as presented. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Zimmerman, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, Mencel, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.
