City of Dallas Center City Council met March 14.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting on March 14, 2018, at 5 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Lila Gittings, Esther Newberry, and Greg Olson. Harold Northup Jr. was absent.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Olson to accept the minutes of the February 28, 2018, meeting. Gittings, Newberry, and Olson AYE. Northup ABSENT.

A motion was made by Gittings, and 2nd by Newberry to pay bills. Gittings, Newberry, and Olson AYE. Northup ABSENT.

Anne Thompson informed the council that Glen Smith recently met with someone from the Burlington Hawk Eye regarding the History of Dallas City. The article is scheduled to be in the newspaper this Sunday, March 18.

Mrs. Thompson feels that there needs to be a better job done around town with the litter problem. She suggested possibly getting someone that needs to do community service work to help pick up the litter around town. She also informed the council that she would be willing to help if the council needed someone to supervise a person doing community service work.

Harold Northup Jr. arrived at 5:09 p.m.

Mayor Six gave the council a report on the Rural Community Economic Development of the State of Illinois seminar that he recently attended in Springfield.

It was reported that Dollar General is going to try to have their new store in town opened in the first part of April.

Mayor Six reported that Ameren Illinois is going to fix the street light on East Second Street west of Chestnut Street.

Discussed a four wheeler that the city confiscated a few months ago.

The owner of Oquawka Boats has contacted Mayor Six and informed him that they would not be able to make the trash cans that he asked them about cheaper than what they can be purchased for thru a catalog.

Discussed a gun safe of the police department's that can't be opened. Commissioner Northup has checked with Jim's Lock & Safe, and they gave him an estimate of around $200 to get it opened. Also, discussed purchasing a new fireproof gun safe.

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to hire Jim's Lock & Safe to open the police department's gun safe. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE.

Discussed the city's boat docks. The engineer has never informed the city what was found out when they did their test. This will be discussed more at the next meeting when the engineer is present.

Discussed replacing more of the old water meters with new radio read meters.

Discussed having Spring Clean-Up Days. Commissioner Gittings will contact Jackson Disposal to see what dates they have available to supply us with dumpsters.

Discussed the idea of getting some new businesses in town, including the idea of installing some kind of seasonal washing facility at the boat docks that could be used to wash boats, cars, trucks, etc.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Gittings to pay Benton & Associates Inc. $17,808.55 for services performed from January 8, 2018, to March 2, 2018, on the sewer project, including bidding and construction phase services. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE.

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by Olson to adjourn the meeting. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson AYE.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
