Greenfield Community Unit School District No. 10 Board of Education met Jan. 22.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

1. President Rodney Knittel called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Upon roll call the following Board members were present: Josh Roberts, Chris Goode, Elliott Turpin, Brandi Rynders and Rodney Knittel. Chris Weller and Joe Kinser were absent. Also present were Superintendent Kevin Bowman, Elementary Principal Jeremy Lansaw, High School Principal Beth Bettis, Ron Plogger, Gary White, Wes Rynders, Joe, Tiffany and Abigail Weisner, Tim, Judy and Matt Walker, Rhonda Bauer and Becky McClelland.

2. Roberts motioned and Rynders seconded to approve the Agenda as presented. Upon roll call Rynders, Goode, Roberts, Turpin and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motioned carried.

3. Goode motioned and Roberts seconded to approve the December 18, 2017 Truth in Taxation Hearing minutes and the December 18, 2017 regular meeting minutes as presented. Upon roll call Roberts, Turpin, Goode, Rynders and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried.

4. Rynders motioned and Goode seconded to approve the Consent Agenda items as presented. Upon roll call Turpin, Rynders, Roberts, Goode and Knittel voted Aye. Motion carried. (See Exhibit No. 1 attached to the Official Minutes)

5. District Highlights – Illinois State Scholars - Two senior students, Abigail Weisner and Matt Walker, were recognized and congratulated by the Board of Education for being selected as Illinois State Scholars. Abigail plans to attend Illinois College and major in music. Matt also plans to attend Illinois College and major in Ag Business.

6. Ron Plogger reported on Facilities/Transportation:

-Elementary gym floors have been cleaned, banners are hung, and new volleyball poles installed -Midwest Resurfacing is preparing a quote for the resurfacing of the Elementary blacktop area -Football concession stand had a leak and it has been repaired -High School chairlift gate has been repaired

7. Elliott Turpin reported on the Greenfield Foundation for Educational Excellence. The annual Pork Chop dinner fundraiser will be held on Sunday, March 18th at St. Michael’s Hall. Scholarships are now available and will be due on April 13th. The next meeting is February 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

8. Superintendent Bowman presented the District Seniority Lists for Board Approval. (See Exhibit No. 2 attached to the Official Minutes)

9. Superintendent Bowman also reported:

-Executive Session minutes from 2017 presented -FRIS financial update -FY18 Library Grant for $750 has been awarded to the District -Fuel Up to Play 60 Grant for $3100 has been awarded to the District

10. Hunt Scholarship Loan application and accounts were reviewed. Diane Williams at United Community Bank has recommended that the Board change language in the loan application to reflect a maximum 10-year repayment schedule. The board also reviewed four delinquent loans, six loans that should start repayment and two loans in good standing. The possibility of using a collection agency was discussed. The Hunt funds are currently in money market accounts and it may be time to move them into Certificate of Deposits with better interest rates. Consensus was to send payment request letters and wait until February board meeting to decide on collection agency. (See Exhibit No. 3 attached to the Official Minutes)

11. Opportunity for Citizens to Speak - Gary White and Wes Rynders spoke to the Board of Education about using the school’s name to join the Illinois State High School Clay Target League. The group would require no school funds-only the use of the school name, opportunity to earn a letter and a picture in the yearbook. All coaches would be volunteers. The trapshooting season would run from April-May with an approximate cost to each participant of $300. Consensus reached was to send out letter to parents of 7-12 graders to gauge interest in the team.

12. Rynders motioned and Goode seconded to go to Executive Session at 8:35 p.m. Upon roll call Rynders, Roberts, Turpin, Goode and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried.

Roberts motioned and Goode seconded to return to Open Session at 8:40 p.m. Upon roll call Roberts, Turpin, Goode, Rynders and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried.

13. Roberts motioned and Rynders seconded to approve the Certified and Non-Certified Seniority lists as presented. Upon roll call Rynders, Roberts, Turpin, Goode and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried. (See Exhibit No. 2 attached to the Official Minutes)

14. Rynders motioned and Goode seconded to keep the 2017 Executive Session minutes closed. Upon roll call Rynders, Roberts, Turpin, Goode and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried.

15. Roberts motioned and Goode seconded to approve a Hunt Scholarship Loan for $2,000 to Jennifer Bishop. Upon roll call Turpin, Goode, Rynders, Roberts and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried. (See Exhibit No. 4 attached to the Official Minutes)

16. Turpin motioned and Roberts seconded to change language in the Hunt Scholarship Loan application to read as follows: “Except as provided below, I will repay Hunt Scholarship Loans a minimum payment of $50.00 per month or amount determined by an amortization schedule of no longer than ten (10) years.” Upon roll call Goode, Rynders, Roberts, Turpin and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried. (See Exhibit No. 5` attached to the Official Minutes)

17. Turpin motioned and Rynders seconded to approve sending letters to four delinquent Hunt Scholarship Loans and letters requesting repayment to the six loans that have not started repayment but who are no longer in school. Upon roll call Rynders, Roberts, Turpin, Goode and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried.

18. Roberts motioned and Turpin seconded to hold a special board meeting on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the addition of a trapshooting club. Upon roll call Rynders, Roberts, Turpin, Goode and Knittel voted “Aye”. Motion carried.

19. Rynders motioned and Roberts seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 p.m. Meeting adjourned.
