State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) gave it up for some of the side-stepping students who walked away with sectional wins from the Illinois High School Association dance competition.

“I know a little bit about this," Davidsmeyer said at the April 17 House Floor Debate while announcing the Jacksonville High School J'ettes dance team seated in the gallery. "My sister was a J’ette growing up and I spent four years following them around to all of their competitions."

After naming off almost two dozen names of the dancers, Davidsmeyer also acknowledged the dance coaches before asking the General Assembly to give the girls a round of applause.

And they don’t just dance, according to Davidsmeyer.

“A couple of these young ladies are good to me at home, because they help me when I have events and come over and babysit for me,” Davidsmeyer said. “We have a great group of very responsible young ladies here.”
