Brown County Community Unit School District 1 Board will meet on May 17.
Here is the agenda as provided by the board:
I. Call or Order
II. Sign in sheets—each person should be certain to “sign-in” on the sheet provided.
III. Child Find: The Child Find Process includes the following steps:
a. Public School personnel contacts known private schools in the area to gather
contact information for students who are enrolled in the private school that are also
known to have a disability.
b. Contact information is used to send out an invitation to attend the Timely and
Meaningful meeting.
c. Public School personnel also reviews previous students who may have been enrolled
in the public school but have become home schooled to acquire last known mailing
address to send an invitation to attend the Timely and Meaningful meeting.
d. Meeting notice is provided posting at BOE Office and via the BCSD webpage.
IV. Proportionate Share: The district must disclose how much of its Federal Part B funds
have been allocated to full-time nonpublic school students, including full-time homeschooled
students, and how that amount was determined.
a. This amount is estimated and provided by the Illinois State Board of Education
based on the child count data from the FACTS March transmission. The final
nonpublic proportionate share calculations are released in August.
b. This amount has been provided to Brown County School District is to be distributed
from:
i. FY 2019 IDEA Flow-Through Non-Public Proportionate Share Amount
ii. FY 2019 IDEA Preschool Non-Public Proportionate Share
V. Meaningful Participation: The Brown County School District ensures that all of the nonpublic
or home-schooled children who have disabilities have the opportunity to
meaningful participation according to their proportionate share in school district
special education and related services throughout the school year. Parents who wish to
have appropriate services according to their proportionate share may contact the Board
of Education Office at 217.773.7500 if they have not previously been contacted by a
Brown County School District Employee in order to set up such services for the
upcoming school year. Emailing the superintendent at vphillips@bchornets.com will
also be another way to communicate the request for services for a non-public or homeschool
student who has disabilities.
VI. Allocation of Services: Services for all non-public and home-schooled children will be
paid for out of these two allocations based on the needs of the individual students.
Historically, Brown County School District has been willing to provide ample services
to students as needed utilizing the following methods and delivery:
a. Speech services from the district employed Speech Therapist
b. Consultation availability to home-schooled students’ parents/teachers and nonpublic
school teachers/staff by district employed special education teachers.
c. Bussing to the public school for learning resource services utilizing the district
owned buses and district employed drivers.
d. Time from a special education teacher to provide small group learning resource
services and/or direct instructional services from district employed special
education teachers.
VII. Proposals of the Non-public School Representatives
a. Should the Non-public School Representatives (Ms. Williamson or other official
representative(s) of any non-public school where Brown County resident /students
attend) have a specific proposal as a recommendation for services, the Brown
County School District will respond in writing within 10 working days by email.
