Hospital

McDonough District Hospital issued the following announcement on May 7.

The McDonough District Hospital Hospice was recently recognized by HEALTHCAREfirst as a 2018 Hospice Honors recipient. The list of recipients was announced at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s Management and Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

This review recognizes hospices that continuously provide the highest level of quality as measured from the caregiver’s point of view. MDH, receiving HEALTHCAREfirst’s prestigious accolade for the second straight year, was one of seven hospice unit’s from across the state of Illinois named an Honors recipient.

“This recognition of The MDH Hospice team is a great honor and reflective of the care and compassion they give to patients. MDH Hospice has been serving the community for more than 37 years and this honor is reflective of their commitment and dedication for excellence in the care they provide,” said Marcia McGrew, Leader of Home Health and Hospice. “Many people are afraid of the word hospice and what it means. To realize that dedicated professionals are there to help when the need is there is a great service to our community. They are truly and outstanding group.”

The award criteria was based on Hospice CAHPS survey results for an evaluation period of October 2016 through September 2017, and recipients were identified by evaluating performance on a set of 24 quality indicator measures. Hospice Honors recipients include departments scoring above the HEALTHCAREfirst National Performance Score on 20 of the evaluated questions.

“I want to congratulate our Hospice team for their hard work and dedication to our patients and their families. Their patient and family-first mentality shows in their exemplary Hospice CAHPS scores,” said MDH President/CEO Kenny Boyd. “Receiving the Hospice Honors recognition is a great award, and one our entire hospital can be proud of.”
